    FLORIDA CHAPTER YOUTH LEADERSHIP ACADEMY

    Chapter Members,

To further the great work our association does for our youth and in keeping with one of our core purposes, Past President Gayward Hendry and members of his committee have been working to create a Youth Leadership Academy for our Chapter. Those of you who attended the Retrainer in Orlando will recall the presentation on this initiative by Gayward. The inaugural class information is detailed below.

WE NEED YOUR HELP! NOW IS THE TIME TO BE PART OF THIS WORTHWHILE PROGRAM!
FLORIDA FBINAA YOUTH LEADERSHIP ACADEMY (YLA) 2019
Dates of Academy: June 21-28, 2019 (Fri to Fri)
Location: Camp Blanding Military Reservation (Home of the Florida National Guard), Located in Clay County, Florida, on Highway 16 between Green Cove Springs and Starke, FL.
Class Size: 20 students, hoping for an equal number of genders (ages 14, 15, 16)

Counselors: Five counselors will be needed to accomplish our goals, with the best mix being 3 males and 2 females. One of these counselors needs to be P.T. proficient and will be in charge of that program.
    • There is a need for instructors to cover our curriculum. It is hoped that the counselors can also cover a block of instruction. Otherwise, we will have to bring in a guest counselor, which could get costly.
The academic course of instruction is as follows: (most of these are two-hour blocks but they can be tailored to instructor preference):
    • Leadership
    • Ethics & Decision Making
    • Juvenile Crime
    • Character
    • Goal Setting
    • Honesty & Truthfulness
    • Procrastination & Time Management
    • Bullying
    • Accountability and Responsibility
    • Social Media & Internet Survival
    • Speech Etiquette & Dress
    • Financial Responsibility
    • Physical Training
Considering the quality of NA graduates that Florida has, I am certain that we have qualified instructors that have in-depth knowledge on our curriculum topics.  Now is the time to make our chapter stand out on a national level. I am hoping to fill all these slots by mid-November. Please call or email me if you have any questions or are ready to volunteer.
