    Livio A. Beccaccio Award

    The Livio A. Beccaccio Award is a living memorial presented to an FBI National Academy Associates member who has demonstrated exemplary character through an act of heroism, outstanding community service, innovation in law enforcement, or leadership reflective of that by which FBI Special Agent Livio A. Beccaccio lived.

    Livio A. Beccaccio served as Chief of the National Academy Unit at the FBI Academy from 1987 to 1994. Before that, he was the Chief of the Physical Training Unit at the FBI Academy in Quantico and had multiple assignments after joining the FBI in 1968. He died September 17, 1997, in a helicopter crash that took the lives of 12 members of an international peace mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

    Selection Process:

    • Annual award covering June 1, 2025 - May 31, 2026.
    • Award will be announced at the FBINAA National Annual Training Conference Closing Celebration in Niagara Falls, Ontario, on June 30, 2026.
    • The submission deadline for nominee name(s) to the Chapter is to be determined by the Chapters.
    • Chapters must prioritize nominees if more than one is to be presented.
    • Chapters must endorse that the nominee is worthy of the award, supported by documentation.
    • Nominations must be submitted to the FBINAA Executive Director by June 1, 2026.  The current Executive Director is John DeVoe.  He can be reached at [email protected].
    • All nominations received by Executive Director McCormick will be submitted to the Committee Chairperson by June 3, 2026; a selection will be made by June 11, 2026, and the recipient will be notified by June 19, 2026.

    Submission Process:

    • Any member in good standing may nominate another member in good standing for the award.
    • A written narrative with the facts and circumstances that support the nomination must be submitted to the nominee's chapter.
    • In a cover letter to Executive Director McCormick, chapters must validate the nomination, endorse the nominee, prioritize the nominees if more than one is nominated, and forward the nominee's name and documentation to support the worthiness of receiving the award.

    Criteria for Selection:

    • An act of valor or bravery at the personal risk of one's safety.
    • Dedicated, meritorious, and outstanding contribution to one's community.
    • A forward-thinking and innovative act that resulted in the improvement of quality in law enforcement or within the community.
    • The sustained, outstanding personal character that is consistent, motivational, and inspiring.
